Heat, not cold, is the real killer
Most people blame winter for dead batteries, but heat does the real damage. High under-hood temperatures speed up the chemical reactions inside a battery, evaporate electrolyte, and corrode internal plates.
Winter just exposes the damage summer already did — that's why so many Texas batteries fail on the first cold morning.
How long batteries last in Texas
Nationally, batteries often last 4–5 years. In Texas, 2–4 years is typical. If yours is over three years old, have it tested before summer.
Warning signs
Watch for slow cranking, dim headlights at idle, a battery warning light, or a swollen battery case. Corrosion on the terminals is another early sign.
How to extend battery life
Park in shade or a garage when possible, keep terminals clean, avoid lots of short trips, and get a free battery test with every oil change.
If your car won't start, a mobile mechanic can test the battery and alternator on the spot and install a replacement in about 30 minutes.
